Safety & Health
The safety & health of our people is a core value.
Safety is a core value of Coterra. The well-being of our workforce and the communities in which we operate is a key consideration when making business decisions. We believe safe and environmentally conscious operations not only protect the individuals on our locations, but ultimately leads to more efficient operations.

Safety Standards and Training
Coterra is continually focused on improving Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) processes, procedures, programs, and protocols. Some of the measures we utilize to accomplish these goals are:
- Performing annual reviews and updates of our Environmental Manual and the Safety & Health Manual to incorporate evolving best practices.
- Providing monthly EHS training to company employees and encouraging our contractors to attend.
- Collaborating monthly with the Company’s Executive Safety Council, a group of nine management team members that convene regularly to discuss safety best practices across our operations.
- Providing training for and conducting annual exercises with the Company’s Incident Management Team and Crisis Management Team.
- Providing safety leadership training to operational supervisors through a nationally recognized consulting company.
- Developing a preventative maintenance program for all operated major rotating equipment and gathering systems including corrosion protection, systematic pigging to remove potentially corrosive liquids from pipelines, and testing to evaluate the properties of the metal, including wall thickness.
Coterra strives for a culture of safety, but when an incident does occur, we conduct an investigation to determine the cause and identify possible measures to prevent future occurrences. We have also implemented safety stand-downs to reinforce our safety principles and to ensure everyone on location recognizes the importance of job safety. A “safety stand-down” is an event where we shut down a job, area, or department for a period of time and gather employees and/or contractors together to discuss and reinforce specific safety topics and the overall safety culture at Coterra.
Contractor Management
Coterra employs a diverse group of contractors that provide specialized service functions necessary for operations. While diverse in nature, all contractors share a common need for effective EHS programs. We strive to employ contractors who are aligned in our commitment to safety and environmental responsibility. Coterra is dedicated to enhancing our contractor’s performance while in our operations. To do so, we focus on the following: contractor vetting, engagement, required training and qualifications, conducting periodic reviews and assessments, and addressing incidents.
Prior to working on a Coterra job site, a review is completed on potential contractors for citations, safety statistics, written programs, training documentation, and job specific requirements. Further, an in-person meeting is conducted by the safety and operations teams to review our safety expectations with the potential contractor. Contractors employed by Coterra are expected to participate in EHS meetings as deemed necessary for their role. Ongoing field evaluations are conducted on contractors to verify implementation of EHS programs and to confirm that Coterra’s requirements and expectations are being met by our contractors.
Emergency Response and Community Safety
We have emergency response plans in place for all areas of our operations, based upon the Incident Command System (ICS) adopted by all levels of government as well as many private sector companies. Examples of emergency response plans in place for our operations are our Crisis Management Plan, Preparedness, Prevention and Contingency (PPC) Plan, and Emergency Response Plan (ERP). Coterra also has detailed Tactical Response Plans in place for all major waterways in our Permian Basin and Anadarko Basin operating areas. The primary purpose of these plans is to establish a response that is efficient, coordinated and effective, while delivering the necessary protection to our employees and contractors, the community, and the environment in which we work. We conduct training and drills on a regular basis with our personnel to ensure the readiness and preparedness of our response personnel.
